This successfully completed, comprehensive project involved the creation of a concrete pad for a hot tub. Initially, we removed 2 to 3 inches of topsoil and vegetation, redistributing this material to level low areas in the backyard as directed by the owner. The best topsoil was reserved near the excavation site for later use. Grade pins were set, and the pad area was precisely graded and compacted using a vibratory plate tamp to ensure a solid foundation.
We then installed concrete forms, aligning them with the height of the crawl space entry frame and incorporating a slight slope away from the house to prevent water accumulation. After setting the forms, we placed concrete, using onsite mixers for 4000 PSI concrete. The pad, measuring 12×12 feet and 4 inches thick, was divided into four blocks by trialed concrete joints every 6 feet, enhancing its resistance to cracking. A soft broom finish was applied to the surface for texture.
Once the concrete had set for 3 to 4 days, we returned to strip the forms, clean the site, and redistribute the topsoil around the new pad. The project concluded with a final walkthrough with the owner and site demobilization.
